Certification

Food Safety

The Food Safety Department provides sanitary certification of export products attesting to their safety for consumption based on the requirements of the importing country.  This certification is based on a system of inspections, audits and testing.

HACCP certification is another service provided by the Food Safety Department to food processing facilities; HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) is an internationally recognized preventative risk management system for safety in food processing.  HACCP certification of certain commodity types is a pre-requisite for sanitary certification.

Other certification systems in the process of development with collaborating agencies include Good Agricultural Practices for agricultural farms, and On-farm food safety for aquaculture farms.
